His first fascination was painting. As youngster, while his friends were playing in the streets of Naples, he was sketching and drawing. Armando Torre was 13 years old when he apprenticed with the painter Ciro Arnese
Later he apprenti-
ced with Giuseppe Garigliani. He also was head of a department at the prestigious Capo Di Monte Ceramic Studio. Painting, sculpture, and restoring antiques
poems became his primary interest.
Armand Gallery in Bay Shore, New York. Was established in 1967. His work is prominently displayed in his gallery along with paintings. Although Armando Torre has devoted his life to the arts, his true love has always been writing Neapolitan poetry.
Mr.Torre believes that his thoughts, memories, and feelings can only be expressed with Neapolitan verse. Armando Torre’s love of poetry began when he was introduced to Edward De Filippo in 1948, and became familiar with his poetry.
Mr.Torre has written hundreds of Neapolitan poems through the years of a young boy who lived through traumatic world war II experiences in war torn Naples. His later poems relflect his feelings of the world in our modern computer age. His poetry is sometimes humorous, sometimes sad, sometimes realistic…
But they are always fascinating.
